Suite 518/520, Tuesday early morning

Agitated, Bel paced his room. First his failure with Veronica and Piper, then Cally's discovery of his powers last night. He was starting to leave a trail of evidence that could eventually point back at him, and that could not be allowed to happen. He'd have to step up his plans, move the coronation forward so he could end this charade.

And in the meantime, maybe he could arrange some sort of distraction, keep attention from falling on himself. So now he pondered this, wondering what he could do -- and who would be a suitable victim.

Figuring that the sooner they got more information on who had attacked them, the better, Cameron headed up to the fifth floor before classes began. He knocked on the door, hoping that Bel was around.

Bel eyed the door as he heard the knock, then pulled it open. "Cam," he said. "What's up?"

"Yo," Cameron greeted. "I uh... was wondering if you had a minute. I'd like to ask you some questions about demons."

"Sure," Bel said, waving Cameron into the room. "What's going on, what do you need to know?"

"I was visiting Veronica and Piper this weekend," Cameron started as he entered the room, "and we ran into a particular type of demon. We think it was after Piper, but she's never seen one like this before. I thought maybe you would know more."

"Is she okay?" Bel said, feigning appropriate concern. "Is Veronica okay? Are you okay?"

"We're all fine. Just a little banged up," he unconsciously moved his shoulder. "I ended up running the bastard over with my car and then Piper vanquished him. The weird thing is that he somehow survived all that."

"Some upper level demons are resistant to a witch's powers," Bel said thoughtfully. "That would have to be one tough demon. What kind of powers did he use?"

Upper level demons didn't sound good. "It could summon fire like you do. Sorry. I mean, like you did," he corrected himself. "It could also shapeshift. It changed into Veronica at some point and then later on it looked like me."

"Shapeshift?" Bel repeated. "That sounds like a chameleon demon, but they usually work as spies, not assassins."

"A chameleon demon?" Cameron repeated. It almost sounded too lame for what had attacked them. "Are those upper level demons?"

"They're mid-level," Bel said. "And they can survive getting parts of their body blow off. They just reform it."

"This thing survived getting completely blown up," Cameron pointed out.

Bel frowned. "That's pretty hardcore," he said. "It just reformed itself like nothing happened?"

"Pretty much," Cameron nodded. "Does that sound familiar at all?"

Bel shook his head. "Nothing I've run up against. But I can have Phoebe check the Book of Shadows to see if she can find anything about it."

"That could help," Cameron sighed. "She's going to be setting up spells either way, but it'd be easier if we knew what we were dealing with."

"Protection spells on the apartment?" Bel said. Good to know. "That's a pretty good idea. Did the demon say what it wanted? It could've been after Piper just because of who she is."

"That's what Piper figured," Cameron nodded, but he didn't sound convinced. "It definitely wasn't interested in me. Do you know if all demons use fire?"

"It's fairly common," Bel confirmed. "Not all demons can throw fireballs, but a good percentage of them can."

"But the shapeshifting isn't, right?" he asked.

"Only a few types of demons can pull that off," Bel said. "Upper level demons can all shift into a human form, but not several different ones like you described."

"So what are you saying?" Cameron frowned. "That this demon is even above that?"

"Or it could be using a spell to shapechange, a glamour," Bel said. He frowned. "It's hard to say. But it definitely sounds like it's a serious threat."

Cameron rubbed a hand through his hair. "Not exactly what I was hoping to hear."
