Suite 518/520, Tuesday early morning

Agitated, Bel paced his room. First his failure with Veronica and Piper, then Cally's discovery of his powers last night. He was starting to leave a trail of evidence that could eventually point back at him, and that could not be allowed to happen. He'd have to step up his plans, move the coronation forward so he could end this charade.

And in the meantime, maybe he could arrange some sort of distraction, keep attention from falling on himself. So now he pondered this, wondering what he could do -- and who would be a suitable victim.

"Only a few types of demons can pull that off," Bel said. "Upper level demons can all shift into a human form, but not several different ones like you described."

"So what are you saying?" Cameron frowned. "That this demon is even above that?"

"Or it could be using a spell to shapechange, a glamour," Bel said. He frowned. "It's hard to say. But it definitely sounds like it's a serious threat."

Cameron rubbed a hand through his hair. "Not exactly what I was hoping to hear."

"Sorry," Bel said. "II wish I could give you better news. I'll have Phoebe look into it and let you know what she finds."

"Thanks," Cameron said gratefully. "How's things been here?"

"Did you hear about Cally?" Bel said gravely. "Somebody attacked her last night, hurt her pretty badly. She's in the clinic now."

For a moment Cameron could do nothing but stare at Bel. "No, I haven't. But she only just... Geez. Is she going to be okay?"

"Janet treated her last night," Bel said. "She said Cally's going to be all right. But she's in pretty rough shape."

"Damn," he cursed. "Do they know who did it?"

Bel shook his head. "Nadia found her," he said. "She called me to help get Cally to the clinic. I checked out the place where she was afterwards but couldn't find anything to tell me who did it."

"Any signs of fire?" Cameron asked thoughtfully.

"She wasn't burned at all," Bel confirmed. "And I didn't see anything scorched where we found her, but it was dark. Nadia mentioned dreaming of fire, though."

Cameron drew in a breath. "Cally was in California too," he explained. "Do you think it could have been the same demon?"

"But why would a demon attack Cally?" Bel said. "She's not a witch, she's not a threat."

"No, but it's a bit of a weird coincidence, don't you think?"

"True," Bel agreed. "Maybe since it failed to get Piper, it went after her friends?"

"That's really not good..." Cameron groaned. If he'd just realised it wasn't Veronica at the party, he could have stopped all this. "We need to find out what sort of demon is behind this."

"Definitely," Bel said. "And hopefully Phoebe's Book will give us an idea of how to deal with it, maybe a vanquish spell."

"A vanquishing spell that works would be really nice," Cameron agreed.

"Some demons need the Power of Three -- that's Phoebe, Piper, and their older sister Prue -- to be vanquished," Bel said. "But we'll deal with that if necessary then the time comes."

"Some demons being upper level demons?" Cameron guessed.

"The most powerful ones, yes," Bel said. "It would've taken all three of them to vanquish me -- when I was still a demon."

"You were upper level?" He didn't mean to sound that surprised. Really.

Bel chuckled. "Believe it or not. I always thought I had to compensate for being half-human by being the most powerful demon I could be."
