With the powers he'd gained from vanquished demons, Bel was able to fight back against the Beast. But even with those powers, he was still tired and once again wondering why he was struggling so hard to survive. He was trapped here for eternity, and he didn't want to spend that time running for his life.

"Phoebe!" Anders came after the tongue with his baseball bat, swearing -- and wincing when he realized it hurt to swing. He thought he got in one or two good whacks before a sharp lance of pain made him drop the bat again.

Another tongue slitered up behind Anders, and as soon as he stopped swinging, it lashed out at his face, smacking him across the jaw.

Bel looked guiltily at Anders as he got hit. Then he grabbed hold of Phoebe. "Phoebe, please, get out of here!" he said. "I can't lose you like this!"

And that was when he, Phoebe, Anders, and Bridge's unconscious body disappeared from the Wastelands.
