(Details NFB, of course, as are internal monologue.)

Belthazor stood outside the dorm main entrance, smoking his last cigarette of the night. It felt weird to be out there and not have Beka to talk to, but she'd gone missing and apparently somehow was a hamster and he had the funny feeling that if and when she came back, things weren't going to be the same at all between them. She'd worked so hard to balance the demon with the human in him, and he wasn't sure he really wanted to know what things would be like without her around.

He'd hit the book store and the library that morning for a little research, then returned to his room to find out that someone had told Phoebe about his threats to Tara. It was only a matter of time before she found out and confronted him on it. He was just surprised it wasn't Angel who told her about it, and about Veronica as well. Didn't matter who did it, really. No more dancing around the fact that he and Phoebe were on opposite sides for this. He had a duty to Angelus. She had to protect her friends. How the hell were they going to get through this?

Then they'd run into Angel in Arthurian Traditions which was still being slowplayed. Perfect end to the day. After that Phoebe had wanted to spend some time alone, so he'd walked her to their room and then come out here and spent the evening poisoning his lungs. He idly wondered if he should inform Raynor about what had happened. "Dear Raynor, the vampire you gave me to has allegedly turned good, so I don't think you want me to do what he says anymore, right?" His mother would surely gloat about it.

As he exhaled a lungful of smoke, he contemplated his next move. He'd talked to Darla and Dru about options. (And who knew that Darla knew Lindsey? Should be fun Thursday night to see what happened when he brought Linds to Darla.) He'd had an interesting chat with Buffy that he needed to continue. He'd started his research into one option and needed to start collecting the objects he'd need.

In the meantime, he'd "behave." He knew no one would trust him, not for some time, probably not ever, but he'd do his best to give them no reason to destroy him like they had Angelus. Not like they needed real evidence, though. He'd be the perfect student. He'd even volunteered to be an attacker for Alanna's self-defense class (which reminded him, he wanted Phoebe to go to that).

He dropped his cigarette and ground it out before heading back inside to go to bed. Maybe tomorrow he'd bring Phoebe to meet Crowley, too.
