The Underworld/San Francisco, Tuesday afternoon - NFB

After his morning class, Bel delayed as long as he could before shimmering to the Underworld in answer to Raynor's summons. But instead of going to the Brotherhood's usual meeting chamber, he instead stole through the dark maze of passages that made up the Underworld, ducking into the shadows to avoid detection when he heard voices near. He was close to Raynor's lair, and if he was lucky, he could find where his former mentor kept his father's soul and could take it and be done with this charade before it went too far.

( A low voice came from behind him, startling him. ''Welcome home, brother.'' )
