Saturday morning, the roof
Early Saturday morning, Bel headed up to the roof. He picked a private corner and brought his supplies up. It took several shimmers to get everything up there, but when he had finished, he laid everything out and tried to puzzle out what to do. He still was dubious about this idea of Blair's, but what the hell.
He put together a crude wooden box deep enough for the plants' roots and big enough to allow for an aestetically pleasing garden. He filled the box with soil and, after consulting the directions on the seed packets, planted the cordyline, the palm grass...and the turnips. Then he placed the pots of phormium at the edges of the box.
When he'd finished, he sat back on his heels, brushing the dirt from his hands off on his jeans. Okay, so now what? He certainly wasn't filled with a new inner peace.

She put her hands flat on the earth and tipped her head up to feel the weak sun on her face. She was quiet for a moment, then looked up at him again. "Phoebe said something about you feeling kind of protective of me. I... just... Thanks. Just thanks. It feels good to know there's someone looking out for me."

He looked at Lana seriously. "Anyone gives you any trouble, let me know," he said gruffly. He felt a little embarrassed that Phoebe had told Lana that. A demon developing soft spots for damsels in distress?

"I don't think anyone here will bother me, but if they do I'll be sure to let you know. It's just..." she made a face, "most of the guys I trusted, felt really comfortable with, are gone. It's nice to know that not all of them are."

With a small smile, she turned to go back inside.

She smiles for a moment thinking of that sappy movie "Sleeper Sofa of Lilies", then stops smiling when she realizes she's imagining Shep in the part of the florist.

"Oh a roof top garden! Why didn't I think of that?"
