South Attic, Thursday evening

Bel lounged in the living room, wondering when Phoebe was going to get home. She'd left a note that she would be back soon, but not where she was going or what she was doing. Probably another welcome home surprise, he decided with a smile.

Veronica dialed Bel's number and waited impatiently for him to answer the phone.

Bel recognized Veronica's number on the caller ID and wondered what she was calling about. "Hello?" he said, answering the phone.

"Please tell me Phoebe is with you," she said without preamble.

"No, she's not," Bel said. "What the hell is going on?"

"I'm at work. Kiki and Lana are here. Apparently Phoebe was coming down here to talk to me. She hasn't shown up yet."

"What? She left me a note saying she'd be back soon but I didn't know she went into town. It's too dangerous with my mother out there!"

"Did you tell her about that?"

"...no. Not yet."

"Great," Veronica said with a sigh. "I'm worried. Apparently she's not answering her phone. She's not here and she's not with you. Is there anywhere else she could be? Did you guys fight or anything today?"

"We didn't fight. But...she wanted to talk to you," Bel said. "If she's not here and she's not there, she's gotta be somewhere in between, or...."

Veronica sighed. "It's the 'or' that has me worried."

"I'm going to go look for her. Wherever she is, I can find her."
