Friday night, in the woods (NFB)

Smoking a cigarette, Bel watched the luau at the main campfire from the shadows beside the Koala cabin. He wasn't feeling very social. In fact, he was downright cranky. And worried. Talking to Blair had helped a little, but he was still disconcerted with how easily demon instincts had come back to him. So much for dedicating himself to good.

Throwing down the cigarette butt, he stalked off into the woods to brood alone.

Veronica was standing outside Flamingo, watching all the activity at the luau and pondering if she felt up to going when she noticed Bel standing by his cabin.

She had spotted Phoebe talking to Piper at the luau and wondered why Bel wasn't there with her.

Then he turned and headed into the woods. Remembering the other night, Veronica decided to follow him.

Once he was out of sight and sound of the camp, Bel let loose of some of the turmoil within him. He clenched his fist and punched at a tree. The bark exploded from the force of the blow, which left his knuckles scraped and bloody. Ow. But it felt good.

"Did you expect it to fight back?" Veronica asked, standing about ten yards away, leaning against another tree, her arms folded over her chest as she watched him with concern.

Bel whirled around. He'd been so wrapped up in his own emo he hadn't realized he'd been followed. "What the hell are you doing out here?" he said.

Veronica shrugged. "If I'm not allowed in the woods by myself, then you shouldn't be either," she said. "What's wrong?"

"I can take care of myself," Bel said. "Nothing would dare bother me out here. Except you.""

"Yes, you've proven that you can injure the poor, defenseless trees quite well," Veronica said. "Why aren't you at the luau dancing with your girlfriend?"

"Not in the mood for a party," Bel muttered.

"Why not?" Veronica asked.

"Have to rest up for detention tomorrow," Bel said sarcastically.

"You have detention?" Veronica asked. "How come?"

"For defending myself and Phoebe and Lana and Maia," Bel said. "Anakin's apparently a big fan of the 'run screaming like a girl' club. Somebody's got power trip issues."

"Who attacked you guys?" Veronica asked, having missed radio since she crashed at Weevil's after work. "I talked to Anakin today and he didn't say anything."

"John Connor had a nightmare or something," Bel said, leaning back against a tree and lighting up a cigarette. "Went over to his side of the cabin to see what the hell was going on. He attacked me."

"Are you okay?" Veronica asked. "Did he hurt you?"

"He knocked me around a little," Bel said with a shrug. "But I'll live."

"What about the girls? Are they okay?" Veronica asked.

"Lana and Maia are at the clinic with concussions and bruises," he said. "Phoebe's okay. She's got detention, too, though.

"Why does Phoebe have detention?" Veronica asked. "And what happened to John?"

"He's also got detention," Bel said. "Phoebe got it for knocking him out to end the fighting."

"It doesn't seem right that you guys have detention for defending yourselves," Veronica said.

"Tell that to Master Skywalker." Bel rolled his eyes.

"So is that why you're out here?" Veronica asked. "Because you're upset about getting detention?"

"Why are you concerned all of a sudden?" Bel said evasively.

"... I don't know," Veronica replied. "You bugged me the other night when I wanted to be alone. Turnabout is fair play."
