Friday night, in the woods (NFB)

Smoking a cigarette, Bel watched the luau at the main campfire from the shadows beside the Koala cabin. He wasn't feeling very social. In fact, he was downright cranky. And worried. Talking to Blair had helped a little, but he was still disconcerted with how easily demon instincts had come back to him. So much for dedicating himself to good.

Throwing down the cigarette butt, he stalked off into the woods to brood alone.

"It doesn't seem right that you guys have detention for defending yourselves," Veronica said.

"Tell that to Master Skywalker." Bel rolled his eyes.

"So is that why you're out here?" Veronica asked. "Because you're upset about getting detention?"

"Why are you concerned all of a sudden?" Bel said evasively.

"... I don't know," Veronica replied. "You bugged me the other night when I wanted to be alone. Turnabout is fair play."

Bel inhaled a lungful of smoke and let it out slowly. "And I suppose you're not going to leave me alone until I tell you," he muttered.

"Don't have anything better to do tonight," Veronica said, sitting down on a not too dirty looking patch of grass.

"Sure," Bel said, half to himself. "Why not?" He took another drag off the cigarette. "You really wanna know why I'm upset?"
