OOC: All About Belthazor/Cole Turner

Canon: This is slightly embellished since very little was ever revealed about Bel's background. The facts? Bel is only half-demon. He's supposedly the only one of his kind. Bel's demon mother, who went by Elizabeth Turner, killed his human father, Benjamin Turner, a California statesman, when Bel was three years old. Benjamin appeared to be trying to take Bel away from Elizabeth; however, she snatched him back. Benjamin's soul ended up in the hands of the Triad, and later Raynor. We know Bel was a member of the Brotherhood of the Thorn, an elite group of demons that served the Source of All Evil. We know he killed lots of people. Unlike other demons, he has a soul and bleeds red (instead of green) (except when the writers forget canon) (which on this show is quite often) (not that I'm bitter).
From here, I've taken some creative liberties and fleshed out his history. Bel's mother, whom I've given the demon name of Elishevara, was assigned to seduce and manipulate a human congressman -- Benjamin Turner. She lived with him for several years as his wife and was shocked to find herself with child. Such a thing should not have been possible without magical intervention, but when her son was born, fortunately for her he was in his human form. Benjamin gave the boy his middle name, Coleridge, but Elizabeth named him Belthazor. Three years later, Elizabeth's mission was declared finished, and she murdered Benjamin Turner. She would have killed her child as well, but the Source of All Evil declared him "special" and ordered Elizabeth to return to the Underworld with him. Disgusted by her half-breed son, Elizabeth gladly handed him over to Raynor, the leader of the Brotherhood of the Thorn, the Source's inner council, for training.
Bel was raised by Raynor with several other young demons the Source had selected. He was tormented mercilessly by the other demons, who taunted him for his human blood. They would regularly abuse him whenever Raynor's back was turned. Bel learned to hate his human half.
As a member of the Brotherhood, Bel was trained in how to use his powers, martial arts, and magical knowledge. He made his first kill at the age of 10 when several witches were captured and brought before the Source. The young demons of the Brotherhood were ordered to kill them so that they would develop a taste for killing. Belthazor was the only one who hesitated, and that earned him a severe punishment. After that, he strove to banish his human feelings, telling himself it made him weak. He worked twice as hard to prove himself to Raynor and the Source, learning to be a cold-blooded killer and wracking up an impressive amount of kills. His power was respected, but many demons still held his half-breed status against him.
The Seer, a visionary who served the Source, saw the rise of the Charmed Ones, three powerful witches who would oppose the Source. Their power, the Seer said, would be difficult to overcome, and subtlety would be required. So in preparation, the Source ordered that Belthazor be sent to Fandom High to get back in touch with his human side so that he might be able to use it to his advantage and get close to the Charmed Ones when they were finally found.
Powers: Belthazor can teleport himself from place to place by "shimmering." He can summon and throw "Flaming Balls of Death" and "Flaming Balls of You Will Fly Back 10 Feet and Hit a Wall and Be Unconscious Now , Yes?" [TM TWoP]. He can also summon an athame (dagger) to his hand. He has some skill with sorcery and occasionally TK when the writers remember it. (Update: at this point, his powers are post-Wastelands, and now include self-healing, shapeshifting, slowing time, and a fondness for turning people into watercoolers. He's a demonic Marty Sue, but Bel will never use his powers on another player without permission first.) Even not in his demonic form he is stronger and tougher than a normal human. He can be sorely wounded, but a Power of Three spell/potion is required to finish him off. His demonic form is about a foot taller and 100 lbs heavier, and his skin is red with black markings. Think Darth Maul on steroids.
FH Canon: Belthazor started out cocky, arrogant, and very eager to prove himself as a powerful force of evil. He desperately wanted the approval of his superiors and his peers and resented his father for giving him a human soul and human feelings he didn't want. At Fandom High he linked up with Angelus, seeing him as an authority figure. He was extremely devoted to Angelus, so when Angelus was souled and became Angel, Bel started using any means necessary to restore Angelus. He also stalked and tried to kill Veronica Mars for her part in the souling. Fortunately for everyone, his attempts all backfired -- including a botched love spell that made Angel love everyone and an unintended body swap between the two of them.
However, life among humans was beginning to affect him, especially in the form of Phoebe Halliwell. Without understanding how or why, he fell in love with her. He realized she and her sisters were the Charmed Ones, but he could not bring himself to report back to the Underworld or kill them himself. And he began to realize that if he brought Angelus back, one of his first targets would be any witch in the vicinity who could resoul him.
Phoebe, and the realization that he and Angel were more alike than he wanted to admit, were the reasons Bel finally gave up trying to de-soul Angel. He vowed to leave the demon world behind him and become a force for good, and he actually became good friends with Angel. His devotion to Angelus naturally transferred to Angel -- and that in turn became something more complex. ;)
When Bel's mother realized her son was "behaving," she tried to deal with this embarrassment herself by setting Bel up for attacking Allie Cameron, thinking he would either flee Fandom and leave his friends behind, or use his powers to escape and embrace his inner demon. Unfortunately, he did neither, so Elishevara resorted to kidnapping Phoebe to try to force Bel to kill her. With the help of several friends, Bel managed to defeat his mother and her minions. Piper threw a vanquishing potion that killed Elishevara and appeared to kill Bel, but Angel pushed Bel out of the way in time. The demonic world, however, thought Bel was dead. For the moment.
After that, he struggled to figure out his place in the world, trying to be good and mostly succeeding. He still had a temper and sometimes had to struggle to control the demon inside him. He was verypossessive protective of certain people who he feels close to (particularly Phoebe). He still wanted to prove himself, but now it was to Phoebe and Angel and everyone else at the school.
Then Raynor accidentally got an invite for Parents' Weekend and found out Bel was still alive. Raynor began ordering Bel to obey his orders again, using Benjamin Turner's trapped soul as leverage. Bel resisted an order to kill a witch, but Raynor used a spell to make him do it. And this was witnessed by Marty Blank. Marty got a hold of a power stripping potion from Piper and Veronica and used it on Bel, turning him into a human.
Not long after, Bel traveled with a group of friends to the Underworld to retrieve his father's soul. The Seer stopped Raynor from killing Bel (but allowed Bel to kill Raynor) and let the group escape for reasons she did not reveal.
And then shortly before Christmas, what the Seer had foreseen came to pass and Bel became possessed by the Source of all Evil. He did many many naughty things until he was vanquished. Everyone thought he was dead, but his human soul clung to life in the demonic Wastelands. He absorbed the powers of vanquished demons to keep himself alive until he was able to reach out to Phoebe. When she realized he was still alive, she organized a rescue and restored Bel to life.
Now he's graduated, and is really really really unsure what he wants to do with himself. Fate seems to dictate law school, but we'll see. ;) He and Phoebe are still together, and recently Anders, who was a favorite plaything of the Source, has become involved with them. It's all dreadfully scandalous. And hot.
PS: Brad Kern is the devil, and we will not speak of Charmed S5 and beyond (except for Wyatt and Chris). *spits*
PS2: LOGAN SUCKS OMG.
