Phoebe dropped down on the couch next to Cole.

"Are you planning on sharing that?"

"But it's mine," Bel whined like it was his eighth birthday.

Phoebe laughed and shook her head.

"Fine. Then I guess you don't want your birthday present, either."

That perked Bel up. "Present?" he said. Maybe he could share a little after all.

"Mmmhmm," Phoebe said, pretending to be reading the notebook she had been holding in her hand. "More than one, if you're nice."

Of course Cally was going to harass her favorite demon on his birthday.

It was a given.

So here she was, giving Bel a ring.

"More than one?" Bel said, intrigued now. Maybe Phoebe had come up with a spell to temporarily duplicate herself. That could be interesting.

He cut off a slice of the cake and put it on a plate and held it out to Phoebe. "Here," he said. "For you."

"Demons are us, can I help you?" Bel answered.

No, Cole, she hadn't figured out a way to temporarily duplicate herself. Personal Gain is a no no, remember?

She took the plate and leaned in to kiss him. "Thank you, sweetheart."

It wasn't for her gain! It was for his! And maybe Anders, too, unless he was being really selfish.

He kissed her back, then asked hopefully, "Present?"

"I need two large pepperonis and an order of breadsticks," Cally joked. "Oh, and a two liter of happy birthday, dork."

Phoebe snickered and nodded. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a key. It was a fancy-looking key.

"Bacon is better on a pizza," Bel stated firmly. "Real bacon, not that Canadian bacon crap. Canada is weird."

Bel held it up and inspected it. "What's this to?" he had to ask.

Her eyes were twinkling. "Oh, just a very secluded getaway cabin that I've managed to arrange for us to have for a week. The second part of your present is in the bedroom. The third part is downstairs in the garage." She gave him an impish grin. "The rest is already at the cabin."

Because with Cole, lingerie on her counted as a present for him.

"This entire planet is weird," Cally said. "You people have too many right angles on things. It's like you all really like shap points."

She laughed, smiling even if Bel couldn't see it.

"I got you a present. You just have to feed and provide for it until he's eighteen. That's fair, right?" That was a joke, of course.

Bel eyed the phone suspiciously. "You didn't have a bunch of future kids show up on the island again, did you? I swear I never touched you."

"No, thank the gods," Cally said with a tone that said she really was grateful about that. "Hell, I'm not even trusting anything battery-powered any more. Though that is probably more information than you possibly ever needed." The mention of battery-powered bedroom toys made her want to ask about Anders. But thankfully, she kept that joke to herself.

"And not that I'm saying I wouldn't... you know what, there's no way I'm recovering this part of the conversation."

All right, that was enough to make him stop thinking so much about the cake, decked out in bacony goodness as it was. "So when are we going?" he asked. "Or do we have to go to the bedroom first?"

Bel grinned. "So you called up to talk dirty to me, huh? There are worse things I could get for my birthday."

Phoebe smiled. "We can leave whenever you like. The cabin is ours until the 31st."

Cally made a face at her phone. "Gross," she said. "I'm a mother. Yuo're not supposed to talk to me like that. I think. There's rules, somewhere."

"And whatever will we do there by ourselves?" Bel asked, pulling Phoebe into his arms because nibbling on her neck seemed much more interesting than cake now.

"I think you got that all wrong," Bel said. "I mean, if there were rules against it, then why is there so much stuff about MILFs and cougars out there?"

"Mmm," Phoebe tilted her head so that he could have better access in order to nibble. "I'm sure we can think of something," she said, getting comfortable on his lap. "I also have it on good authority that there is a hot tub there... and I may have already packed some extra lingerie and had it sent there."

"Because the thirteenth colony is weird. Or... something," Cally said. "Ugh. I'm not really a cougar though, right? I'm too young for that. I hope."

"Hot tub," Bel grinned, wrapping his arms around her. "I think we'll definitely have to try that out."

"Nah, I think you need a few more years for that," Bel snickered. "You're safe. For now."

"Thank the gods," Cally said. "And if anyone ever tries to use that other term with me, they're getting decked. That is sooo not the way to win me over. It's just so... crass. And demeaning."
