When students came in today, they'd find the following written on the board:
Temperantia (Temperance) versus Gula (Gluttony)

"We're keeping class short and sweet today," Constantine said dryly, from where he was sitting on a pile of suitcases and steamer trunks labeled things like 'baby killer,' 'manipulator,' 'murderer,' 'liar,' 'thief,' and more. "Because while I have no problem with you lot knowing my failures, some of you may want to get out of here sooner rather than later."

"Contrary to what the American Temperance movement of the 19th and 20th century would have you believe, Temperance is not about total abstinence," he joked, leaning back to put his feet up on a box labeled 'Astra.' "Temperance is about moderation, which is still something I'm utterly shite at."

"As human beings, we naturally enjoy the pleasures of food and drink and se-- other sensations." Everyone be proud, he remembered this was technically a class.

"If you asked Thomas Aquinas, the problem arises from 'inordinate desire' for them." Constantine waggled his eyebrows, and a giant suitcase tagged 'smoked so much I got lung cancer and learned nothing from it' fell from the ceiling.

He ignored it. "Derived from gula - meaning to gulp down or swallow, gluttony is best described as over-indulgence and over-consumption. It's a self-centeredness that focuses on the self rather than making sure there's enough for everyone."

"So, what does that make temperance?" John asked, leaning back on his throne of sins. "Well, she means 'moderation,' not total abstention. That's why the Temperance Movement didn't work -- they ignored Aristotle's warnings and went too far on the extreme from gluttony, tipping into abstinence, and we all know abstinence-only education doesn't work. Temperantia means 'self-control,' not 'total denial of self.'"

"Now it's time to confess, my cheery little sunshines." Constantine grinned widely. "Where do you struggle between our ladies of temperantia and gula? Me? Smokes. Drink. Magic. I don't believe in doing anything halfway."

"Alternately, if you aren't feeling up to confession, how do you feel gluttony is different from greed or lust?"

Gregorith was quite enjoying his morning. He had donuts and coffee and a lovely view. Sure he missed Hell, and his friends. Sure he was a little worried he’d been away from the practical part of his job so long he might be rusty. But Fandom was nice. Especially now that it was warm.

Surely he could be forgiven for not initially noticing the backpack beside him on the bench with “WILL NEVER BE LOVED” stitched on it in big friendly letters.

Not talking about it.

Looks like it was pretty quiet yesterday, with the only thing of note being Shenanigans, where Anakin ambushed the voluntolds and after the rounds of 'what is wrong with you' and 'why a cow', made them draw on each other. As you do.

*more thudding noises*

Okay, that one's yours, and no, we're not going to run out of rum.

Somewhere, two days after talking to Ada, it had finally dawned on Dante that she was coming over this weekend and he should probably-- fuck. Do some shopping. Get some stuff to make her feel at home. Something.

How that had ended up with him chasing some demon across several dimensions? Yeah. Sometimes life was just like that.

And of course the only portal home had a layover right here, on the island he was pretty sure Kathy was living now.

"Shitting hell," he muttered, as the portal dropped him off on the grass in the park. The next one would be out of here in a couple of hours. Best thing he could do was hang out in place for a while, right?

He fumbled for his phone. Was it her dog-walking time yet?

(He did not notice the obnoxiously large trunk behind him.)

There was luggage again.

At least it wasn't a surprise, necessarily? Not the first time Steven had encountered it. So once he saw a battered suitcase with the words NOT ENOUGH written on it he knew what it was about.

Didn't make it any easier to deal with though. Particularly as he helped it get to the museum. Yes, he wasn't *required* to carry it. But it tried to follow him and the rolling wheels meant it took a tumble on all the stairs. Which in turn Steven felt bad about because it wasn't the suitcase's fault the island wasn't accessible.

Which was why Steven was there, behind the welcome desk, accompanied by his suitcase and a cup of tea which wasn't exactly making him feel better but at the same time it was soothing to hold.

Good morning? It’s Wednesday again but at least yesterday was less odd than last Tuesday? I think.

Classes at the school were-

*chittering*

I…oh no. Oh no. I didn’t mean to… anyway.

Jon talked about classes in his class on D&D but different sorts of classes and that seems to be the only thing from the school yesterday.

Nothing from the dorms. Sorry, Porg.

In the town Remy was selling…puddles? Oh no. Selling signs warning about puddles. Right. At Needful Things where I remain unsure if he actually works or not.

Kathy was at the Devil’s Nest and remained her usual self unlike last week and she got a call from someone who wasn’t the person who the phone calling belonged to.

Kitty was at Caritas as usual and wondering who had ordered something called Zima and if Zima was even made anymore. I don’t know the answer to either.

There was nothing set up in the park today--Anakin was getting sneakier. Even the t-shirts were kept hidden for the moment.

When he'd finally herded enough people into his trap snare area, Anakin pounced.

"Today," he announced, "we will be playing a new game! It's like telephone but instead of words, you will be drawing pictures onto your teammates backs! First team to get all three guesses correct wins."

What do you win? Didn't matter. "Come get your shirts!"

“Right, so today we’ll be deciding what class we each want to play,” Jon said. He brought up a web site. "Class is your profession or inclination. it determines what kinds of things you can do in the game. There are a lot of different options. It's generally considered a good idea to have a range of classes in a group. So, at least one person that knows magic, one that can fight, and one that can heal. Possibly several that can heal."

He suspected this group might end up murder hobos. Call it a hunch.

"If you have any questions, please ask. Also please discuss as a group what you'd like to play - it should be enjoyable for everyone, but well balanced."

Kathy was slightly on edge tonight. She couldn't say why or where, but she had this feeling like the other shoe was about to drop. Literally--any time something hit a surface too loudly, she startled. It was a good thing she had preternaturally good dexterity or she might have fallen over several times.

Who could say what or why this was and it certainly had nothing to do with any posts that might have been here previously but it did make for a bouncy shift.

Hey there Fandom? What up, it's ya girl, Arden Finch, here with all the exciting news of yesterday.

School had 2Book 2Club watching a movie about a book club, and that's very meta of them. Paintball had us running around in giant hamster balls and nobody let the Dean get ahold of these.

Dorms - do I even have to mention Dorms any more? At least if there aren't any notes - was quiet, and Town was a tiny bit livelier, with Steph returning back to personhood from being a cat with Vi, and Professor Vess looking at weird crab-like bracers at Infinite Consortium.

Anyway, that's all and now I'm out before class starts. Enjoy Landmines by BELLSAINT and bye!

Kitty hadn't made it into the office during the day yet this week, so she had her laptop out at the bar to check inventory numbers and place some orders. And look at invoices.

Which is how a cry of "Who ordered twenty cases of Zima?" rang through the bar.

And then a muttered, "Do they even still make Zima?"

The joys of being an active superhero or master thief at the same time: you didn't really manage to spend a whole lot of time at home.

Joys of being both, and of being kind of petty and an asshole while you were at it, sometimes you came home absolutely sopping wet from one of your adventures, and decided that rather than go clean up first, you'd go right to your "shift" at the local junk shop.

Mind the scattered puddles when you came in. No, they were not marked with any "Caution: Wet Floor" signs. You could always buy one and put it up for him. He might even be willing to give you a discount on it! If you ask nicely.

[IDEK. But I do live. So: OPEN!]

No, Tino's not in the doghouse anymore but he still needs to watch it.

The holes filled with paint were covered back up again, which was probably not a great sign because the people-sized hamster balls had also made their reappearance. "Hello, everyone!" Steve said with a bright smile.

"So this is a sort of niche version of the game where there aren't any guns. Since you'll all be in the bubbles," Tony explained. "But we have kiddie pools of paint that you just need to trick or brute force your opponents into."

"It's going to be so much fun!" Steve said enthusiastically.

Steve would feel differently about how fun this was in a minute.

It was fine. Dante'd just spent a cosy 24 hours on the sofa, working his way up to a drink, and then he'd spent a few more hours drinking. Then he'd run out of booze.

And now he was eyeing that postcard again. Hadn't gone far, not since the mermaid episode.

He was eyeing the bit that read, We sent Marti home -- she ain't been feeling good.

There was a sense of inevitability settling down on him, one glance at a time. He was trying to put it off. He felt tired. Sad. Like he should be using whatever energy he had left to take a trip to the liquor store and not... doing what that part of his head told him he should be doing.

He let his head drop back against the sofa. "Fuck," he muttered.

Then he picked up his phone, scrolling past many new text messages, all the way down to--

Today there was a projector screen set up along with everything else. You might have wondered why they wouldn't just be holding class up at the school in that case, but you'd probably get plied with more pastries and cocktails rather than getting an answer.

"We're getting meta today," Aphra declared, waving around her drink. "In what's known in literary circles as recursion, we're watching a movie about a book club."

Isabela nodded knowingly. "On the internet they'd probably call this a club-ception."

For the most part, Liliana didn't much care about the stock she received. Unless it was either something very disturbing, or it was directly in her niche of interests, she mostly didn't care. Honestly, it was most often some kind of sword or another and after the first ten or twelve of those, who cared?

But then sometimes she pulled out an artifact the made her stop, stare, and question just what the hell artificers were on when they designed things.

Like these opaline bracers that looked more like crab claws than anything else. It looked like something that should be in a radio broadcast about the Clinic.

Maybe she should send it over?

Gregorith was sketching and listening to an interesting Linkin Park cover when the call came in. It was his personal phone, not the desk phone but never the less he answered as if it had been.

"Fandom Museum, Gregorith speaking...no I just thought it would be funny. What's going on?" He listened for a moment, frowning thoughtfully. "Well without access to his soul file I couldn't be sure but I'm not sure an endless marathon of home movies would cause him any pain. That kind of thing's usually a Level 5 deal. Now if it was footage of how happy they were in their reincarnations or paradises that might work. But of course that would be violating their privacy. If the ones who stuck around in the Afterlife are willing, sure...I mean you could ask the ones in Heaven but I suspect they'd just forgive him. Anything else?"

Suddenly he barked out a laugh. "Lev gave you the memo?!"

He'd of course get off the phone if any patrons came in.
