demonbelthazorIt was her fault. She'd taken Angelus away. She hadn't done the ritual, but she'd found the evidence to convince the others to do it. He'd deal with them in time, but first...Veronica.
He'd sought her out at the school, but either she was lying low or she'd left town. So he'd taken to watching Echolls's house to see if she was there, figuring even if she wasn't, she'd return soon enough. His patience paid off, and now here she was. Walking alone at night, even. She made it so easy.
He grabbed her and shimmered her to the empty warehouse, a private, quiet place where he could toy with her, savoring the kill. So convenient that she was so terrified of fire. He chased her through the warehouse, cutting off her escape with fireballs, driving her exactly where he wanted. Her screams, her tears, were exquisite.
When he finally grew bored with the chase, he shimmered in front of her, grabbing her by the throat, conjuring a fireball and bringing it to her face.
This time, Angel didn't save her.
Veronica screamed as the fire scorched her face. Bel shoved her to the ground, standing over her as she clutched her hand to her ruined cheek, sobbing. "Should've kept your mouth shut," he growled. "Should've kept your nose of this. It's your fault that he's gone."
He reached down and seized a handful of her hair, yanking her back up. His athame appeared in his free hand. "Now you're going to pay," he snarled, shifting into his demon form. She screamed, begging for mercy, but he had none left in him. He thrust the blade into her belly and jerked it upward.
Bel woke from the dream, sitting up in bed, shaking from its realism. He could still feel the blood on his hands and hear Veronica's screaming in his head. No. Angel had stopped him and saved Veronica. He didn't kill her.
But in the dream he had. And he'd enjoyed it. And even now, he couldn't shake that feeling of pleasure. Violence and death. The demon craved it. And wanted more.
