Suite 518/520, Sunday Night

Bel was not hiding in his room. He was studying. Finals were coming up pretty soon, right?

It was just convenient that his room was an Anders-free zone.

So far, as near as he could tell, only a few people knew about his new status. Phoebe, of course, and he'd talked to Blair and Wilson. Marty knew, and it wouldn't be a jump to assume that he'd told Veronica what he'd done. But other than that, no one had approached him about it yet. So either they didn't know...or they were keeping their distance. Parker couldn't know, that he was sure of. She'd be kicking down his door by now if she did.

He picked up the remote and idly flipped through the channels on the TV. The second part of "King of the Bracelets" was on. That should be a suitable distraction. He briefly thought about calling Angel, but he wasn't ready to admit what had happened yet. There'd be time for that later.

Yeah, well, convenience was about to run out, as Anders wandered up three floors to Bel and Phoebe's suite and knocked on the door like a big dumbass.

Bel wasn't expecting anyone, but he opened up the door.

And eeped. Almost verbally. And almost slammed the door in Anders's face.

If Anders had been thinking about it, he could have sworn that expression on Bel's face said "eep!" all over it. But he wasn't.

Besides, that would be silly. Also, his foot was in the doorway already.

"Thought you were coming by later," he said.

Bel scratched his head. "Something came up," he lied.

Anders made a tsk-ing noise. "Without me?"

Bel glared. "What do you think you're doing, coming here? Phoebe could be home!"

Anders shrugged. "Just bored, honestly. Plus I got tired of waiting for you." Then the import of Bel's words caught up to him and he froze. "Oh . . . frak, I didn't think of that, I don't wanna die . . ."

"You wanna get us both killed?" Bel hissed.

Anders shook his head violently, his gaze constantly darting over Bel's shoulder into the room. He looked like he was ready to bolt at the first sign of movement. "No! Geez, I -- frak, I'll leave, then, okay? I'm sorry!"

Bel felt guilty about the fear on Anders's face. He felt guilty about what had happened between them, too. "She's not here," he sighed. "You're safe."

And now, he was looking around the hallway in the same jumpy fashion. Anders probably should have felt more guilty than he did, but mostly he was just concerned about getting vanquished or something like that.

"For now, anyway," he said with a shrug. "Hey, look, if you're busy I can just . . . reschedule or something."

Bel rubbed the back of his neck. "Well, this week is gonna be tough," he said. "You know, finals are coming up and all. Lots of studying to do."

Being avoidy? Of course not.

"Tell me about it," Anders replied. "I did have this one final project I was going to work on, Tuesday night. And then I got distracted," he added with a slightly awkward, but knowing smile.

There was knocking on the door. Joyful knocking. Lots of knocking.

"BEL! BEL! BEL! BEL! BEL! BEL! BEL! BEL! BEL! BEL!" Jamie shouted, "Open up! We need to go to Greensboro to get her! We can go tonight and make S'mores! I brought marshmallows!"

Bel heard the pounding on the door and for a moment thought Anders had come back until he recognized Jamie's voice. He opened up the door. "What's going on? What are you talking about?"

"Marie! She's okay! She's running away from her parents tonight. We're going to meet her at the train station. Get your disco on and let's shimmy to NC," Jamie said trying to grab Bel by the arm and drag him out the door.

"Shimmy?" Bel repeated. Oh, hell.

"Uh...I can't," he said, more frustrated than ever as he pulled Jamie to a stop. "Shimmer, I mean."

"Beg pardon?" Jamie said suddenly going very quiet. "But... But... How? Why? Why now? We got to get Marie back! She's going to be stuck in the deep south without us! Possibly having to eat okra! SHE DOESN'T DESERVE THAT!"

"Doesn't matter how," Bel said. "We'll get her. North Carolina? We can drive there, right? It's what, five hours away or something?"

"Right. Road trip. I'll get the car!" Jamie replied. "Hey we'll make it a group thing! We'll get a bunch of people and greet her at the station!"

"She okay?" Bel asked. "I know she's been away from school, but I haven't heard why at all. What happened?"

"Apparently her parents found out about her being a mutant," Jamie said with a grumble. "They decided to pull her out of school and take her to doctors in order to fix her. She called me earlier this evening. She's running away to get back here."

"Damn, we definitely have to get to her then," Bel said, cursing his inability to just shimmer to the rescue. "Count me and Phoebe in. We'll get her back here."

"Right. I'll get Willow and Peter will want to come along," Jamie agreed. "Can you think of anyone else?"

"Zuko's good friends with Marie, I think he'd want in," Bel said. "And I think she's friends with Lana, too. I'm sure she'll want to see as many friends as we can get waiting for her."
