When Belthazor awoke, he knew he was in trouble.

He was in bed with Phoebe. His superiors would not be pleased. He was a demon of peace, love, and happiness, after all, and she was an evil witch. But he couldn't help it. Somehow he was drawn to her. Maybe he could somehow bring her over to the side of light....

Bel cocked his head in confusion. "Phoebe?" he said. "Are you feeling all right?"

Phoebe shook her head. "Not exactly having the best wake up call right now, Cole," she said as she started looking through the drawer on the table next to the bed. "Damn it, where are my cigarettes?" She looked up at him.

"What... I mean why... how...?"

Yeah, articulation was not exactly her friend right now.

"I know I often ask that question of myself, but despite what we are, we can't seem to resist each other," Bel said. He moved toward her to embrace her.

Phoebe allowed herself to be embraced for a fraction of a second before coming to her senses and pushing away. It was now her turn to be confused.

"Are you feeling alright, Cole?"

They hadn't been affectionate with each other since she had made the choice to stay as his queen and keep her sister safe.

"I... this... you seem different... again."

"How so?" Bel said, confused. "This is what I am, you know that. You've known that since I was first sent to try to stop you and your sisters from corrupting the world."

Phoebe's jaw dropped and she sputtered for a few moments. "Excuse me?! Need I remind you that when we met you were working for the Source of All Evil and trying to kill us?! My sisters and I were a source for good... and now..."

She tried holding on to her anger at him for such an accusation. She turned her head away where he wouldn't see her face.

"Is this some new trick? Haven't you already won? You took over the man I love...loved...I never see my sister because it's not safe for her..."

She spotted her cigarettes on the floor beside the bed and grabbed at them. She lit one and then looked at him.

"So now I'm the evil one? And you're what, a Whitelighter or something?"

Now Bel was really confused. "I'm a demon, of course," he said. "I work for the Source of All Goodness. My duty is to spread peace, love, and joy. You and your sisters are the Charmed Ones and you work for the side of evil to make the world a darker place. I was sent to stop you, but...I fell in love with you."

Phoebe looked hurt by that comment.

"My sisters and I never did anything for the side of evil and you damnn well know it. We were the Charmed Ones until your boss killed Prue. Now it's just Piper and I." She shook her head sadly. "The only part that rings true about all of that is the part where we once fell in love."

"Something's very wrong, Phoebe," Bel said. "You're not making any sense."

"Something is always very wrong in our lives, isn't that true?" She took a drag off her cigarette. "Besides, if I'm so evil... how can you be in love wiith me?"

Yeah, answer that one honestly, Demon in Disguise...

"It's the human part of me," Bel said. "I know it's wrong, but I can't resist you."

Phoebe stared at him for a long moment. "You're joking..."

All of this was starting to make her head hurt. Her Source-of-All-Evil-Wearing-Cole's-Face husband was messing with her again and she wasn't amused.

"That sounds almost exactly like what Cole told me when I didn't vanquish him and lied to my sisters about it. He told me that the human half of him was in love with me and kept the evil demon half from killing me." She laughed shortly as she finished her cigarette. "And now... look at us."

"What happened to us?" Bel said, reaching for her again. "We've always known our love was forbidden but it's never made you this miserable."

Phoebe sighed and looked confused. "I... I don't know, Cole. Maybe I just need to go for a walk or something to clear my head."

"All right," Bel said. "But you know if you need me, you just have to call, right?"

[sensethevisions]

Phoebe nodded. "I know," she whispered. "No matter what we've been through, you've always come when I called."

Bel wanted to give her a hug, but he figured she'd just reject him again. "Be well," he said instead. "And blessings on you."

Phoebe wasn't sure that she wouldn't just hold on to him for however long she could while he was being this concerned and caring if he touched her again.

So, instead, she nodded, gave a faint smile and left the room.

What the hell was going on with him?
