After running into Anders, Bel headed back to Xander's place so he could charge his cell or find another phone to give Phoebe a call.

Isabel had heard radio and wanted to get Xander's take on the situation. The fact that certain other people she wanted to see could possibly be there was an added bonus.

Despite the sunlight, she still kept a wary eye on her surroundings at she knocked on the door.

Bel was sprawled on the couch, but got up to answer the knock when he heard it at the door. Maybe it was good news, that there had been a temporary soul-sucking thing on the island that had slurped up Angel's soul, but someone had killed it and in doing so made it vomit the soul up, and now it was firmly back in Angel's body.

Okay, the slurping and vomiting part sounded kind of gross, but he was desperate here!

"Hey stranger," Isabel said when he opened the door. "What time's the food fight?" As far as humor went, it wasn't the best, particularly given who had been at that last food fight.

"Hey," Bel said, moving back to let her walk into the apartment. He gave her a half-smile and said, "I wish."

"Yeah, I got that impression," she nodded. "Radio was cryptic, but I can imagine. How are you doing?"

"I'm fine," he said automatically, shutting the door behind her, then returning to the couch.

Isabel had grown up with Max and Michael. She was fairly certain I'm fine translated to I'm an emo mess inside but I'm going to play stoic so as not to ruin my macho image. "Just fine huh? Really? So you and evil hairboy discussed holiday plans yesterday?"

"He was pretending to be Angel," Bel said quickly, totally an emo mess but playing stoic so as to not ruin his macho image, and thinking Isabel would fall for it.

"Because it hurts more when a friend twists the knife." Isabel would be insulted if she knew he thought she was that stupid that's tomorrow.

"I fell for it," Bel said, looking down. "Couldn't think straight enough so to speak to realize he was acting wrong. He had me fooled. Probably could've killed me if I mattered enough."

Bitter? Not at all.

"No way. You matter," she said firmly. "You matter enough that he'd want to screw with your head for as long as possible." It's funny how Isabel was suddenly reminded of Kivar. "If you didn't matter...then you would be have been dead last night."

"Because he knows you won't hurt him because you know Angel's there, deep inside," Isabel told him.

"Maybe," Bel said. "I'm pretty sure he doesn't think I'm worth the effort." He shrugged again. "Whatever."

"You're worth the effort," she said, reaching out to thwap him. "Who are you going to believe? Me who loves you dearly? Or the evil guy looking to twist you in knots?"

"That I was nothing to him," Bel said in a forced so-what-I-don't-care voice. "I was just a tool, and a barely useful one at that."

"I don't really know what Angel thinks anymore," Bel said. "But Angelus is part of him." He shrugged again. "It's not important, we've got bigger things to worry about."

"Angel thinks you're his friend. Why else would the two of you spend the day grunting and scratching while I brought you beers on Thanksgiving," she teased gently. "It's what friends do."

"You're right though. People are getting hurt." Present company most definitely included.

"We need to find him and put his soul back in," Bel said. "Before he kills someone."

"Yeah," Isabel nodded. "He wouldn't be able to cope with that." She had her doubts that he'd be able to cope with just losing the soul and hurting people.
