Hyperion, Saturday Night

Bel didn't get sick often, especially since he picked up the nifty insta-healing powers in the Wastelands. But there were a few things that could still knock him off his feet, such as, unfortunately, the common cold. And said cold turned Bel into a whiny, cranky, miserable patient indeed.

Phoebe had gone to the store to buy a bottle of medicine for him. It was the most vile thing he had ever tasted, and living in the Underworld, he had tasted a lot of vile things. But he began to feel a little better, so he figured that more of a good thing was a better thing and chugged the whole bottle.

This could prove to be a biiiiig mistake.

Especially because his cell phone was in easy reach.

Bel looked up at Anders. He had a piece of paper in his hands. "What do you make of this?" he said. "I can make a hat, or a broach...or a pterodactyl!"

"You're not making anything that can come to life," Anders said firmly . . . which didn't narrow things down much, given that in the constant state of bizarre that was their lives any of those things he'd mentioned could have. "Put the paper down, Bel."

"The life of everyone on board depends upon just one thing," Bel said solemnly. "Finding someone back there who can not only fly this plane, but who didn't have fish for dinner."

Anders had no idea why something about that made him so twitchy.

"I swear to the gods, I'm going to gag you or something. You're making my head hurt."

"Hi, I took the flight workshop," Anders said, twitching again.

Anders just turned around and banged his head into the doorframe. "Why am I even having this conversation with you?"

"You'll be swell, you'll be great," Bel giggled. "Gonna have the whole world on a plate. Startin' here, startin' now. Honey, everything's comin' up roses...." He flopped down on the bed.

"Oh," Anders said sarcastically, "as long as you're hopped up on that green gunk I'm pretty sure nothing's gonna be coming up anything."

He had not yet moved from the doorway.

"Nothing is green except for your brain, right now," Anders said, and went over to sit down on the couch with a sigh. "I'm cutting you off. No more of that stuff for you."

"And I wish I had a video camera to record that statement," Anders answered through a sudden fit of guffawing. "And the whining. This is frakking priceless."

Anders made a show of leaning back against the couch and tucking his hands behind his head. "Maaaaaybe. I'm not persuaded yet."

He just wanted to enjoy this for as long as possible.

Bel rolled over on the bed to face the wall. "Did he make you cry, make you break down, shatter your illusions of love," he said plaintively.
