Cole woke before Phoebe for a change. He quietly got dressed then headed out to the kitchen to make coffee. Eyeing the stove warily, he decided to attempt to make pancakes to surprise Phoebe.

Fifteen minutes later he had some lumpy pancakes on the griddle that were anything but round. And flour all over the counter and himself.

In theory, the pancakes were edible. In theory.

Bel mulled over the reasons. "The only thing I can think of that sets Logan apart is he was the one who convinced you to drink the cure," he said. "Maybe...some part of you blames him for making you drink human blood, and your fears about that set you off in his presence? It's either that, or it could be because Angelus wanted him...."

"I've been thinking it's Angelus again," Angel admitted. "Maybe drinking human blood woke him up?"

"Isn't your soul stronger than a few swallows of blood?" Bel said. "I mean, if that's all it takes to wake Angelus up, I wasted a lot of time." He grinned ruefully.

Angel gave him a small answering grin. He took a seat. "I don't know. I've never had to deal with this before. Darla's the one who poisoned me though. Maybe it's an offshoot of that?"

"A backup plan in case the poison failed?" Bel said. "She's the only one who can answer that, and I can't find any trace of her anywhere. I guess until we can figure this out you should just stay as far away from Logan as you can."

That thought didn't make him happy at all, of course.

Angel, oblivious to Bel's pleasure, nodded. "That's what I figured. Keep as much distance between him and me as possible and there ya go. Problem solved."

"That doesn't solve it," Bel pointed out. "What if you bump into him somewhere unexpected?"

"So that's your plan? Just avoid him and hope the problem goes away?" Bel said.

"How do you think he's going to take that?" Bel asked. "Think he'll try to press the issue?"

Angel's stoic might've flickered for a moment, but it was quickly back on.

"He hasn't sought me out since then. Doubt it's going to be a problem."

"Don't be stupid," Bel said. "He's going to try to corner you and find out what's going on. He's annoying like that."

A small smile touched Angel's lips. "Yeah, he is."

Bel refused to sulk about the small display of affection. "You'll have to get some people to help run interference," he said. "Me, John...did you tell Callisto?"

"She was the first one I told," Angel said. "Well, about what happened in Logan's room. She thinks I should talk to Parker."

"We don't want to cause an alarm or anything," Bel said, "but yeah, Parker should probably know. Who knows, maybe she can dig up something in Special Collections that can help you out."

He almost made a face. Not long ago suggesting talking to Parker would've been ridiculous.

"Kay, see, here's the thing - " Angel said. "I don't want to."

"Okay," Bel said slowly, "but if she finds out, she'll stake you. Not that I'll let her or anything. And I certainly won't tell her if you don't want her to know, but Logan might say something."

"And hitting!" Angel said, pouting. "And you know I'm just not up for one more person thinking that the problem here is that I had sex with Logan."

"Well, if you were a little more specific than" -- Bel made the nebulous hand motion -- "that, maybe people wouldn't think so. Besides, Veronica would kick your ass." He tilted his head, thinking. "You should probably be careful around her anyway," he added.

Angel facepalmed yet again. "I already told her Logan and I didn't have sex."

"Can you go for five minutes without saying Logan and sex in the same sentence?" Bel said. "It's making me nauseous. Anyway...Angelus went after Rory to get to Logan, didn't he? So stands to reason that if he is trying to get out, he could go after Veronica to do the same thing." Bel shrugged. "She probably smells like Logan, too, to you." He made a face. "Eww."
