Suite 518/520, Thursday morning/early afternoon

The X-Men had returned Bel and Phoebe and the others to Fandom late last night. Bel was still a little freaked out about seeing Kitty, but it was good to be home. His body was stiff and sore and bruised from the fighting at the Statue of Liberty, and he welcomed the chance to sleep in his own bed again. He wasn't, however, particuarly looking forward to the questions and accusations that were probably waiting for him, and he lingered in bed come morning, dreading getting up.

But Marie was safe, and that was what mattered. He'd deal with everything else as it came.

"Friends like me. And... ummm... who are you actually friends with, other than me and Phoebe, anyways?" Cally asked.

"I don't know anymore," Bel said, lowering his face into his hands. "Depends on who believes me and who believes Marty, I guess."

"Well, I got your back," Cally said. "And if you say that doesn't count, I will cry."

"Thanks," Bel said, lifting his head. "It counts. It counts a lot."

"Which, you know, doesn't come with powers, but you don't need 'em to protect your friends," Cally said. "Okay, now we can talk about Marie, and why did she need rescuing?"

"Her parents pulled her from school because they freaked about her powers," Bel said. "She ran away and we went to get her, but a bunch of evil mutants grabbed her. We had to get her back from them."

"And, see, you still managed to help with that without powers," Cally said. "Wish I'd known. I totally woulda helped."

"Almost got myself killed," Bel said disgustedly. "I was useless. Everyone else did all the work."

Cally frowned again. "You are seriously talking to the wrong person if you want 'Wah, I'm normal' sympathy."

"You expect me to be happy abuot this?" Bel muttered.

"You got on my case for wanting powers, remember?" Cally said. "If you think I can be fine without them, you can too. You're stronger than me."

"You're not the one with this gaping hole inside you now," Bel grumbled. He sighed and rubbed his temple. "I'll get used to it, I guess. But right now it just sucks."

Cally nodded, then opened up her arms. "Come on, you need a hug," she said.

Bel gratefully accepted. He'd been so worried about losing all his friends, it was a relief to know he hadn't.

Cally hugged Bel tight. "It'll all be okay," she said.

"I hope so," Bel murmured. "'Cause right now it doesn't feel like it."

"It'll take time," Cally said. "I'm sure something or someone'll figure out how to fill up your hole."

Pause.

"Not dirty."

Bel couldn't help but snicker. "Sure sounds dirty to me," he said.

"What you and Phoebe do behind closed doors is none of my business," Cally said. "So she can fill... I'm going to stop now."

Bel flailed a little. "I do the filling!"
