Suite 518/520, Thursday morning/early afternoon

The X-Men had returned Bel and Phoebe and the others to Fandom late last night. Bel was still a little freaked out about seeing Kitty, but it was good to be home. His body was stiff and sore and bruised from the fighting at the Statue of Liberty, and he welcomed the chance to sleep in his own bed again. He wasn't, however, particuarly looking forward to the questions and accusations that were probably waiting for him, and he lingered in bed come morning, dreading getting up.

But Marie was safe, and that was what mattered. He'd deal with everything else as it came.

Nadia wasn't looking to accost anyone, she just wanted to get Bel's perspective on everything and make sure he was okay. So she headed up to his room in the morning before her dance class.

Hey, the guy went through hell with her. That kind of made her want to make sure he was doing alright.

She knocked. "Bel? It's Nadia. If you've got time, I'd like to talk. . . ."

Bel had crawled out of bed by then and warily went to the door and opened it. "Hey," he said. "Come on in."

"Thanks." Nadia walked just barely into the room and leaned against the wall. "Marty told me what happened. I thought I'd get your side of it, and see if you're okay."

"I'm alive," Bel said, shrugging a little. "I hurt and it sucks but...yeah, I'm alive." He brought his hand up and rubbed his forehead. "What did Marty tell you?"

"That he saw you kill someone. So he used a potion that Veronica and Piper had given him to remove your demon side."

"He did. I did," Bel admitted. He drew in a breath and closed his eyes. "I didn't want to. Raynor made me do it."

"Raynor. He was--was he the man we saw, the one ordering around--um, you, sort of . . . when we were in hell? What did he do? How did he make you do it?"

Bel nodded. "Yeah, he was there in hell. He cast a spell on me and made my demon half take control of me. I couldn't stop myself...."

"Dios." Nadia kind of wanted to give him a hug, but had no idea how he'd react. So she just kind of fidgeted. "But he can't do that any more? Now that Marty. . . ."

Cally took a deep breath, and knocked on Bel's door.

Bel opened up the door to find Cally there. "I didn't touch him," he said automatically.

"I'm more concerned about the murder," Cally said, her expression a little grim mixed with disappointment (not disappointment that Bel wasn't having sex with Anders, just disappointment in general, thank you very much). "Maybe. Kinda. But good to know, thanks."

"You've, uh, heard then," Bel said. He sighed and waved Cally in.

Cally entered the room and closed the door behind her. "I... you're okay, right? Other than the whole not being a demon thing?"

"I guess so," Bel said. "I mean, it sucks that I don't have any powers and I almost got killed trying to rescue Marie and I don't heal as fast so I hurt all over and I feel all empty and cold all the time, but yeah, I'm okay." He punched his fist on the top of the back of the couch.

Cally gulped. "Bein' normal's not so bad," she said. "I... okay, we'll get back to the whole Marie rescuing thing in a second." And that was a bit of a relief for her. Not that Marie needed to be rescued, but the whole Bel was wanting to do good thing, which meant he was still him and not all evil and murderous and stuff.

"But... you did do it? The... killing?"

Bel sank down on the couch. He was quiet for a moment, staring at his hands. "Yeah," he finally said. "I didn't want to, though. Raynor made me."

Parker needed answers. And if Bel really *was* human, nothing was going to stop her from getting them.

"Bel! Open up! Or I'll get a damn battering ram!"

Oh, hell.

Well, she wouldn't shoot him in the dorms, right?

He sighed and opened up the door.

Parker stalked into the room, turned and glared at him, eyes narrowed to study him. "You killed someone? Was this a Source thing, or did you just lose it completely?"

"I didn't want to do it," Bel said for what felt like the thousandth time. "Raynor made me do it. He used a spell on me."

"Did you know he could do that?" Parker demanded, starting to circle him. "Just yank you around like a puppet? Jesus. What if he'd made you kill someone here?" She stopped, glowering at him. "He was probably working up to that, you realize."

"No, I didn't know he could, I'm not stupid," Bel said, glaring. "I went to the witch to warn her to hide, but then Raynor was there, and he...he made my demon side come out, and I couldn't control it."

Parker continued to pace around him, one way, then the other. Possibly calmer, but still angry. "Was this the first thing he had you do? No other little 'tricks', or 'tests' or attacks?" She stared at Bel a moment, then said, "You're really not a demon any more?"

She reached out and poked him in the arm. Like that was a test for demon-ness, or something.

"He had me do other things," Bel admitted reluctantly. "But nothing where I hurt anyone." Just their trust. "I went along with it or else he would've destroyed my father's soul. I was trying to buy time to figure out how to get it back from him."

When Parker poked him in the arm, Bel said, "Ow! Yeah, I'm human. Marty killed half of me. I don't have any powers anymore."
