Suite 518/520, Sunday late afternoon/evening

Bel returned to his room after talking to Phale and made a couple phone calls. He didn't like the idea of bringing people with him into the Underworld, but he didn't want Phoebe to kill him, either. Hopefully everything would go smoothly and he could find his father's soul and finally lay him to rest.

He couldn't help but think of Schrodinger's offer from last night during his visit to the common room. Get his powers back? Tempting, oh so very tempting.

In the meantime, there were finals to study for. Woe.

Bel blinked when Schrodinger appeared. "How'd you get in here?" he said. "I didn't hear the door. And, yeah, we're alone. Phoebe's not here right now."

"I'm everywhere and nowhere," Schrodinger responded. He looked around to ensure that there were no piratannical shrubs around. "So, have you been thinking about what I said?"

Bel nodded. "Yeah, I have. So what would I have to do?"

"Well, that depends," Schrodinger said. "I don't set the terms, you see. But, we have two options for you. One is that we try and scientifically restore your powers, without the pesky demon-y side effects."

"Not sure how I feel about that," Bel mused. "I mean, that could work out great, but I don't like the idea of being poked and prodded like an experiment. So what's the other option?"

"It also might not work," Schrodinger said. "It's experimental, after all. The other option is to give you a slightly different set of powers."

"Like what?" Bel asked eagerly.

"Supernaturally great strength and speed. A wicked combination of invulnerability and regeneration. And," he leaned in and motioned for Bel to get closer.

"Sounds good," Bel said, leaning in.

"I have it on the highest authority that, if nothing else, we can give you your fireballs back."

"I'd love to have them back," Bel said, smiling a little.

"There's a downside to that route, though."

"Figured there'd be a catch," Bel said. "What is it?"

"Well, I don't know what the Doc is going to charge for it. But there are some weakness that come along with the powers. You'll want to stock up on sunblock. Be careful around silver. I'd also talk about churches, but I don't think that was ever an issue for you."

"...sunblock?" Bel repeated. "As in, stay out of the sun or else?"

"You won't blow up," Schrodinger said. "But you'll learn to dislike it."

"Like a vampire?" Bel said, almost a squeak, but not quite.

Schrodinger smiled. "That is the general idea."

"No. No." Bel flailed just a little.

"Not down with the vampire idea? The other option is still open."

"I can't be a vampire," Bel said. Tempting as it was.

"Phoebe would kill me. Angel would kill me. Plus there's the whole losing the soul thing."

Schrodinger shook his head. "No, no, no. Your soul you keep. I've heard that some vampires lose souls, but not the way we know how to do it. And who's Angel?"

"Angel's my unrequited crush best friend," Bel said. "He graduated last year. He's a vampire, but he got cursed with a soul. So he's on the good guys' side."

Schrodinger shook his head. "Where I'm from, all vampires have souls. It's up to them what they do with their state. Still not up for the idea?"

"I somehow don't think that would go over too well with the girlfriend," Bel pointed out. "Or, like I said, Angel. He'd kick my ass."
