Suite 518/520, Thursday morning

The Source had been enjoying himself.

After dealing with Cally, he'd felt the need to create a little chaos and confusion. He'd seized on the opportunity to kidnap Angela and torment her before letting Marty know where she was, arranging things perfectly to sow some discord in their relationship.

(Actually, he reflected, he should thank Marty. If he hadn't stripped Belthazor's powers, it wouldn't have been nearly so easy to possess him.)

On top of that, there were rumors that Bridge and Z were missing. While he wasn't responsible for that, that particular incident threw some more confusion into the mix.

Currently, Bel wasn't up to no good; instead, he was puzzling over the emails he'd suddenly gotten from Xander.

Phoebe had been getting ready for her class, but she stopped to drop a kiss on Cole's head as she passed by to get tea.

"Morning."

"Morning," he said, grabbing hold of her and pulling her into his lap.

Phoebe grinned and got comfortable. She kissed him and pulled back to look into his face. "Busy?"

"Just checking my email," he said, brushing her hair from her face. "There have been some strange things happening lately."

Phoebe nodded. "I heard about Cally," she bit her lip. "I was thinking of going to see her after class." She ran a hand through his ahir. "What else has happened?"

"Your sister and Veronica were attacked over the weekend," Cole said solemnly. "Some sort of demon, Cameron told me. A shapeshifter."

Phoebe almost fell off of his lap. "Oh god... are they okay? Is Piper...?" She stared at him in shock.

"They're okay," Cole assured her. "I told Cam I'd have you check the Book of Shadows to see if you can figure out who was behind it. I thought it might be a Chameleon Demon, but it seemed too powerful."

Not that he particularly wanted the trail to lead back to the Source, but he had to put on a good show of concern. Phoebe hadn't succumbed to the evil that was growing inside her yet, after all.

Phoebe nodded. "Yes, yes of course. I can do that right now." She shok her head. "As upset as I am with Piper, I don't want anything to happen to her ... or Veronica." She swallowed. "Chameleon Demon? You're telling me that shapeshifting demons have names like that?"

He had the decently to look sheepish. "I didn't come up with the name!" he said.

Phoebe laid her head back against him, clinging a little bit. The news of Piper getting attacked had upset her. "I know. I'm just glad you never had a name like that."

"I'm unique," he said, hugging Phoebe close. "But whatever this is attacking your sister -- it sounds very dangerous."

Phoebe sighed. "You think that it's a witch hunter?"

"I don't know," Cole said. "I didn't want to say it to Cam, but there are only a few demons that can shapeshift and throw fireballs like that. One of them is...the Source of All Evil."

Phoebe paled. "You think he's coming after us?"

[demonbelthazor]

He shook his head. "I don't know, sweetheart. But I won't let him hurt you."

Phoebe nodded. "I know you won't." She swallowed. "What do you suggest we do in case he comes here?"

He's already here and you're sitting in his lap wouldn't be a good answer to give at this juncture. "We'll figure out something, love," he reassured her. "Don't be afraid."

"I'm not afraid...much," she said with a slight smile. "You're here."

"Always," he said, giving her a squeeze. "I'll never let you go, no matter what."

Phoebe tightened her arms around him. "My demon," she said. She had never gotten out of calling him that, even though he was human now. "I never want you to let me go, love."

"Not a chance," he murmured. Belthazor wanted the witch, so the Source wanted her, too. She would be his queen and rule the Underworld beside him.

"That's good to know," she said as she kissed him. She pulled back for a moment. "You'll be at Caritas tonight as usual?"

[demonbelthazor]

"Of course," he said. "I'm your personal bouncer."

She laughed softly. "I don't think I'm ever in danger there, but it is nice knowing you're there just in case anything were to happen."

[demonbelthazor]

"I just want you to be safe," he said. "Especially if there's a demon running around out there."
