South Attic, Wednesday Morning

Cole woke before Phoebe for a change. He quietly got dressed then headed out to the kitchen to make coffee. Eyeing the stove warily, he decided to attempt to make pancakes to surprise Phoebe.

Fifteen minutes later he had some lumpy pancakes on the griddle that were anything but round. And flour all over the counter and himself.

In theory, the pancakes were edible. In theory.

Phoebe smelled something good, and the idea of food convinced her to get out of bed. She quickly got dressed and came out in to the kitchen and she grinned when she saw the flour everywhere.

"Flour demon get vanquished?"

Cole pouted at her. "Cooking from scratch is harder than I thought."

He was so cute when he pouted.

She brushed flour off of him so she could kiss him.

"I can't cook from scratch, either. I end up starting fires." She looked around. "Making breakfast for me? That's so sweet, love."

He playfully dusted flour on to the tip of her nose. "Figured I would try to surprise you," he said.

Phoebe giggled. "I'm surprised, love, and I like the surprise."

"Sit down then, and see if I managed not to poison you," Cole said. He put a plate of the misshapen panckaes and a mug of coffee in front of her as she sat. "Lots of syrup may help," he said ruefully, setting a bottle down on the table as well.

Phoebe tasted the pancakes and then she smiled. "No matter what they look like, they do taste good, love."

"Good," he said in relief, sitting down to eat some as well.

Phoebe ate some more and then put her fork down.

"I need to tell you something..."

She was chewing on her lip.

Phoebe smiled faintly at him. "Thank you. I just wish she'd think before she did some of her stunts." Phoebe shook her head. "Piper is going to be livid."

"And I won't blame her," Cole said. He sighed. "So back to why you were there...."

Phoebe sighed. "I was looking for a ledger... and a calendar."

"What for? Did you find it?" Cole said.

"I was trying to find a ledger to see how many people... if there was something I could do..." She sighed and let out a breath. "I made you a promise to get out of the engagement and I was looking for information to do so..."

"Did you find something?" Cole asked eagerly. He wanted this thing ended as soon as possible.

Phoebe frowned. "Not yet... but I'm wondering if I can use Paige's oversight to my advantage." She looked at Cole. "Crowley claims to care for my feelings... if I'm just so distraught over him dallying with my sister that I just cannot go through with the wedding..."

"Worth a try," Cole said. "But I don't like you spending any more time with him than absolutely necessary." He frowned at the thought.

Angel walked right into the room without so much as knocking.

"You were right, I was wrong," he said. "Mark the calendar, I'm not going to say that often."

Bel had returned to his room to check his messages to see if Angel had called back, and looked up in surprise as Angel walked in. Well, after shimmering into Angel's room without warning, he hardly had grounds to complain. "So the radio was right?" he said. "It happened again?"

"Kinda." Angel made a face. "In the... happening again sense of the word."

"And he saw you this time?" Bel said sympathetically.

Angel nodded. "Freaked."

"But it's just been him?" Bel asked. "No one else?"

"So far, yeah," Angel said. "Thank goodness."

"So what is it about him that sets you off?" Bel mused. "What's so special about him? The cure didn't have any of his blood as far as I know, and if that was it, you'd be putting on your game face for a lot more people, including me."
