After a trek to the western portion of Fandom Island, Our Heroes reached the entrance to some old sea caverns. There were several tunnels heading off in different directions. Bel was fairly certain which one led to his mother; she was really making no attempt to hide. But there were other demons lying in wait down the side tunnels as well, and they couldn't afford to have them come up behind them.

"Okay," Bel said, trying to be all leader-like. "Group one is Cam, Molly, and Alanna. You take the tunnel on the far left. Group two is Bridge, Isabel, Walter and Camulus. You take the tunnel to the near left. Group three takes the right hand tunnel and is John, Ivanova, Pip and Pippi. Angel, Piper, Paige, and I are going down the middle. We'll meet up back here. Is everyone all set?"

After entering the cavern, Veronica looked at the various tunnels.

"Let's take the center," she suggested.

Faithful adjusted his vision for the darkness. "Sure. There's something that way anyway."

Skitter skitter.

Nadia pulled out her mallet. "Do demons squeak and skitter?"

"I don't think so," Veronica said, pulling out her taser and setting it to the highest voltage possible.

Faithful jumped to the ground and began to prowl in the darkness. "Come out come out whatever you are." He was almost singing.

Skitter skitter.

A rat poked its nose around the corner ahead of them.

Nadia relaxed slightly, then scowled at the rat. She knew from rats. They could be nasty, but weren't generally horrible.

She kicked at it.

Faithful purred. "A rat. And a cat. Excuse me." He went trotted over to the rat and swiped a paw at it, claws out.

Squeak!

The rat jumped and scurried out of the way of Faithful's claws.

Nadia stomped visiously at the fleeing rat's tail.

The rat squeaked angrily and tried to take a chomp out of Nadia's ankle.

"Oh, I don't think so," Veronica said, aiming her taser at the rat.

Squealing, the rat tried to crawl up the inside of Veronica's pants leg.

Faithful didn't like that, so he jumped on Veronica's leg and repeatedly hit at the rat with his paw, claws always out. If Veronica's pants got hurt in the process, at least it wasn't her leg. Hopefully.
