Wednesday night, the roof

Bel was feeling decidedly broody. It was finally starting to sink in that he'd officially betrayed the Underworld. Not like he hadn't before, but now it wasn't a secret. Which meant that it wouldn't be long before Raynor sent someone to kill him or drag him back to the Underworld to face the Source. There were people here who would help him, but he didn't want to be responsible for harm coming to them because of him.

And he'd killed his mother. Not by his own hand, but close enough.

So he went to the place where brooders go: the roof.

Faithful was bored and Alanna was busy. Hence, the school exploring. "Mrowr."

"Hey, Faithful, what's up?" Bel said.

Faithful smirked. "Geographically? You."

"Ha ha," Bel said. "And now so are you."

"You're taller." Faithful helpfully pointed out. "And how are you?"

"Been better," Bel said. "Just thinking about things."

Faithful purred, twitched his tail, and gave Bel a look that could be easily read as : Yes, and go on.

Bel shrugged. "The Underworld knows I'm a traitor now," he said simply.

Faithful continued starring at Bel.

Lana made her way up to the roof. She was just feeling too claustrophobic to stay in her room another minute, but she really didn't want to go out into the town.

When she saw Bel there she hesitated for a moment then went over to say hello. She could always find another spot to starwatch from if he didn't want her there.

Bel sensed someone up on roof and turned to see Lana walking towards him. "Hey, Lana," he said, leaning against the railing. "How're you?"

"Not bad, all things considered," she said and came over to lean against the railing herself.

She stared up at the stars. "Beautiful night, isn't it?"

"Yeah, it's pretty nice," he said, but he didn't sound too convincing.

Lana turned and looked at him more intently. "Wow. You sound about as cheerful as I feel. Anything I can do? I'm a pretty good listener."

"Just thinking about what happened last week," he admitted. "With my mother and all."

She reached out and put her hand gently on his arm. "I'm sorry. With all the worrying about Phoebe, I didn't take the time to think how hard this all must be for you. On so many different levels."

"They're gonna come after me," he said softly. "They're gonna kill me or take me to the Source. I mean, I already knew they would, but I guess now it's more real."

Somebody is drumming on the banister as they come up the stairs.

*thunk thunk thunk*

The drumming switches to the other side of the door that leads out to the roof.

*thunka thunka thunkthunk BOOM*

The door is kicked open and Pippi jumps out onto the roof with a pair of wooden spoons raised in the air.

"WOOOOOO!"

She notices she's not alone on the roof.

"Oh! ... Hi."

"Hey," Bel said in greeting. "What's up?"

Pippi shrugged.

"Just messing around." she said sitting next to a (very manly) planter and tapping out a lazy rhythm on it.

"What's up with you?"

"Just enjoying the night," he said evasively. "I'm glad the weather is warming up. I'm used to things being a lot hotter than they are around here."

Pippi got the joke and chuckled.

"Yeah, I bet." she said. "Can't think you're longing for it to be that hot though."

"I can definitely do without that kind of heat," Bel said with a laugh of his own. "Thanks again for your help the other night, by the way. I can't say that enough."

Pippi stopped tapping and looked thoughtful for a moment, then shook her head.

"You're welcome." she said, "We're all just glad everything's turned out okay."

She punched him (lightly) in the arm beofre starting to drum on the planter again. "It was the right thing to do, you don't have to keep thanking me... Though if you want to shower me with gifts and adoration, who am I to turn away gratitude?"

"My girlfriend might get upset about the adoration," Bel said, chuckling a little. "But what kind of gift says 'Thank you for helping to save my girlfriend and kill my demon mother?'"
