Western Fandom Island, Friday night

After a trek to the western portion of Fandom Island, Our Heroes reached the entrance to some old sea caverns. There were several tunnels heading off in different directions. Bel was fairly certain which one led to his mother; she was really making no attempt to hide. But there were other demons lying in wait down the side tunnels as well, and they couldn't afford to have them come up behind them.

"Okay," Bel said, trying to be all leader-like. "Group one is Cam, Molly, and Alanna. You take the tunnel on the far left. Group two is Bridge, Isabel, Walter and Camulus. You take the tunnel to the near left. Group three takes the right hand tunnel and is John, Ivanova, Pip and Pippi. Angel, Piper, Paige, and I are going down the middle. We'll meet up back here. Is everyone all set?"

"I've got training in a few different martial arts styles- both Earth and Sirian. Not to mention, it's sort of hard to hit the guy who can see your move before you make it." He stops and narrows his eyes. "Speaking of... watch out ahead. I'm picking up traces of something not human."

There's a low growl and then the unmistakeable scream of a young girl in pain. Something starts moving fast towards the group and there's another scream. Something stumbles out of the shadows.

It's Phoebe. She's battered and a little bloody and she looks absolutely terrified. She's looking over her shoulder as she comes out and she falls to her knees, skidding slightly.

"Phoebe!" Camulus pushed past Bridge, reaching for the girl automatically. "A ghraidh, what happened? Are you alright?"

Mentally Isabel breathed a sigh of relief. They'd found her without anyone getting hurt. "Phoebe, are you alright?" she asked as she stepped forward.

That was it? Walter was rather disappointed. But wait, there had been something chasing her; they still had a chance for fun. He focused behind the reunion on the tunnel from which Phoebe had emerged.

Phoebe is looking around at everybody a little fearfully. "They.. she was going to cut pieces of me off and send to Belthazor."

"Tha sin ceirt, a ghraidh," Camulus murmured, reaching out to pat her on the shoulder. "Bidh sin ceirt an drasda."

Don't ask why he reverted to Gaelic.

As Isabel looked at Phoebe she realized she looked scared but otherwise unharmed. Bel would be happy about that at least, despite the reasons for the kidnapping in the first place. Belthazor? But Phoebe called him Cole, she remembered. Isabel stepped back towards Bridge. "Something isn't right."

Phoebe stared in confusion at Camulus, and responded in English.

"We have to go. They're chasing me." Her eyes started welling with tears.

Bridge frowns thoughtfully as Isabel's words sink in.

He turns towards Phoebe and scans her.

"That's not Phoebe. It's a demon," he says.

Stupid, stupid, stupid, he berates himself, dropping into a fighting stance. How could you forget to check?

The demon shoved away from Camulus and backs away, showing teeth.

"Did you really think that we'd let you get to the little witch? Elishavera has plans for her."

Crap! So much for things being easy. Isabel looked around the tunnel for anything to use as a weapon, finally settling on a large rock. A wave of her hand and it went flying towards the demon's head.

The demon? Not too smart, but fast. She grabs the rock and sends it flying at the head of the one who seemed to have the strongest ties to the witch.

The big guy.

With a snarl, Camulus's hand came up and the ribbon device blasted the rock in the opposite direction, bouncing and clattering off the far wall. His sword was in his hand, but he couldn't bring himself to use it on the demon. Instead, he brought the device to bear on the demon.

"Where is she?" he roared, his fingers flaring out and the jewel glowing.

Isabel is starting to regret she hasn't had a chance to practice with Anakin. It takes a little more concentration, but this time pieces of tunnel debris go flying towards the demon.

The demon is knocked back and slams into the side of the tunnel. She fights through the rubble, but she's obviously hurt.

"Is that all you have little girl? I'll make sure to tell the witch you died bravely."

She summons an athame and throws it at Isabel.

Walter snatches the athame out of the air with a flurry of wire and gives a sharp jerk, sending the dagger flying in harmless pieces away from the others.

"Is that all?"

"Bitch," Isabel muttered as she held out her hand and tried to visualize the demon shattering like the crayon.

The demon looked surprised and then looked at the four.

"She'll be dead before you get to her," she said before she exploded into tiny particles of Fauxbe demon.

Camulus straightened, sheathing his sword. His eyes flared again as they narrowed. "Impressive, nighean bheag," he muttered. "Taking the form of Phoebe . . . Inexcusable."

Rage. This would be rage on his face right now.

"She pissed me off," Isabel said with a shrug. And then she looked around the tunnel, "I suppose finding Phoebe isn't going to be so simple after all."

"When is it ever?" Bridge says, and starts moving forward again. *This* time, he'll be more careful, damnit.

"Be careful, boy," Camulus growled, completely unnecessarily, as he padded down the tunnel behind Bridge, a throwing knife in one hand and the other out to blast anything coming towards them.
